Welcome to Bike Cobb! - Supporting Bicycling in Cobb County, Georgia
Thanks for visiting our Website. This foundation, in partnership with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition as their Cobb Bicycle User Group (BUG), was established to leverage their network and organization into a local advocacy effort in Cobb County. As we continue to increase membership, we will be asking people to step forward and participate. We're brainstorming, developing our agenda and setting the stage for the next steps.
Present Efforts
- Increase Membership:Go to bike shops, Silver Comet, schools, colleges & universities, local neighborhoods, fitness centers, Dobbins, Lockheed, businesses, places of worship, etc. and inform folks about our organization.
- Increase Awareness:Get a foot in the door with the cities and county officials in various departments - both elected and key employees. Be invited to "come to the table" in planning meetings. Talk to local key employers and civic organizations and ask for their participation, too.
- Quick Wins: Select a few low-cost, low-risk items that will make an impact, and "make it happen" in a short amount of time. For example, getting more "Share the Road" caution signs posted.
Goals
- Emphasize Health, Safety and Education.
- Increase Bike to School & Commuter Opportunities
- Create Rideable Center Initatives (RCIs). Like Livable Center Initatives supported by the Atlanta Regional Commission, these RCIs can be focused on 3-5 mile centers of work, live, play, shop; reducing the necessity for short car trips.
- Create a Network of Bike Lanes, Multi-Use Trails, Paths and Routes, linking an Intra and Inter-County Network for Cyclists.
Without YOU, we can't get very far. So please sign up for a tax deductible membership, and to join our forums and calendars.
Many thanks and have a great -- and safe -- ride!
