Bike Cobb has been working with the City of Marietta and area merchants regarding installing bike racks on and around the Square. Presently, we are soliciting specific merchants who would: a) Like to have a rack near their business and/or b) Care to contribute financially to support this.
Dan Thornton, the owner of FreeFlite Bikes is willing to obtain the racks from his distributor and can make special pricing arrangements.
As of March 12, 2010, the next steps we need is to get names and commitments from the merchants who are interested. If you are willing to support this effort, please send an email to: info@bikecobb.org.
Not every merchant has to commit financially. A listing of interested businesses will greatly help and we can bring this up to the council. The City’s annual General Fund budget for 2010 is $49 Million. Perhaps we can also ask them for a few hundred dollars to offset this cost. After the racks have been obtained, we will contact the city for final approval and installation.
Attached are a map of potential sites on and around the Square, photos of locations, and a sample bike rack pricing (Retail - we can get better pricing than this. Once we get commitments, we will clearly specify the cost for each).
After the racks have been purchased, we will contact the city for final approval and installation.
